U.S. Navy Seabee, Joshua Dae Ho Carrell, age 23, originally of Port Angeles, passed away after a battle with malaria on December 26, 2009, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Joshua was a 3rd Class Petty Officer with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3. Joshua had contracted Falciparum malaria, the most dangerous form of the mosquito-borne disease, while deployed to Monrovia, Liberia. At the time of his passing, Joshua was helping to build a hospital on a humanitarian project.
